Use zone templates to OCR similarly formatted documents. You can create a zone template by drawing manual zones, identifying the contents for each zone, and then using the Save Zone Templates command to save the exact location and contents of each zone. Zone templates can be quickly accessed from the drop-down menu in the zone button for use on other documents with similar layouts.
Ever had a need to import faxes into your favorite word processor for further editing or customization? Use the Load Image command in the Image button of the AutoOCR toolbar to convert any image file on your system into editable text and graphics for use in your favorite editing applications.
Save all your settings to a single file, making it easier to quickly process similar documents. For example, save a particular set for faxed files and a different set for quarterly reports.
Use OCR training features to recognize hard-to-read characters. Specify a particular character, and the OCR engine will automatically map every instance of that letter to the correct character. This feature is particularly useful for degraded documents, with blurred, joined or other hard-to-read characters.
Plenty of Room
When using OmniPage Pro, make sure your Windows virtual memory swap file is no larger than 8MB unless absolutely necessary. It is worthwhile to reset the swap file periodically to make sure no corruption has occurred. A small swap file will not slow the system down; it will, in fact, speed things up. Also try to keep resources above the 70% level when Windows is first started for optimal OmniPage Pro performance.
PAGEKEEPER 2.1
Vital Statistics
Check your database's statistics by selecting Help/About PageKeeper. Click on the Database Information button, and you'll see information such as the path of the database you have open, how many documents it contains and how big the actual file is.
Annotations and Documents
If you want to attach specific keywords to certain documents, use PageKeeper's annotation feature. To annotate a document, open it up and select the Create Note command on the Document menu. Type
in the words you want to use as keywords, in any order.
Be Commanding
Adding any PageKeeper menu command to the button bar is as easy as dragging and dropping. Just hold down the Control key and select the command you want to add to the toolbar. The cursor changes to a
special button icon. Move the button to the place you want on the toolbar and click. That button is automatically added to the toolbar at that spot.
No Splashing!
After the PageKeeper execution command, add the variable /NOSPLASH. This will force PageKeeper to run without displaying its graphical introductory splash screen.
OMNIFORM
Many Pages Make a Single Form
It is possible to scan a multiple page form into the same .OFM file. Place a check mark in the "Add pages(s) to current form" box in the Scan Form dialog.
My Kinda Forms
You can set defaults for form objects so that when you draw them, they have the appearance, font and text that you want. To do this, click on the drawing tool for which you want to set defaults, go into Object Appearance, Font or Text in the Format menu and make your changes.
Enter, With Assistance
If you're inside a Fill Text object, pressing CTRL + Enter will make a new line in the object instead of tabbing you to the next field.
Double-Plus Printing
You can print over a pre-printed form by going into Fill mode, selecting None for the Form control and any selection other than None for the Data control. You can use the Offsets button to specify offset for the data so it lines up with the form you're printing over.
